What is social media?
Social media consists of a variety of tools used to communicate in a social way. Traditional media, including newspapers, radio, billboards, etc., they all.function as a one way street. All of the communication here is one-sided.
Social media functions as a two-way street; you, the consumer, receives information, but this time, you are allowed to communicate back.
Social media can take on many different forms, including Internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, microblogging, wikis, podcasts, photographs or pictures, video, rating and social bookmarking.

What is social networking?
Traditional networking is defined as the exchange of information among individuals for business or employment. This often means connecting with other individuals who you may or may not have anything in common with.
Social networking affords the opportunity to target these exchanges. It means specific connecting that originates on common social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare. Once you are inside an online community, you can begin to create your own network of friends and eliminate members that do not share common interests or goals.
